Many Species Of Azaleas

The time has come once again for the azaleas to be in bloom. Where I live in the larger city of Wilmington, North Carolina, there is an Azalea Festivel. It is in full swing this week coming up. We won't see it as it is also the week we have our timeshare which is in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia.

When we looked at our house before buying it, it was advertised as a park like setting and it was! Both the front and back yard are full of azalea bushes, pine trees and large older trees(don't know the scientific name for them). My husband fell in love with it right away. I knew that it was the house we were buying.

I can't resist the urge to take photos of the blooms each year. Last year before I landed in the hospital and almost died, we were given many lily plants. We are looking forward to see if they bloom and produce more plants this year.

Taking a new prespective to live, I am trying to enjoy more and worry less (hard to do with children and grandchildren). I have to continually leave them in God's hands on a daily basis. That also gives me the opportunity to thank him for the beauty he has allowed me to have around my home.

Azalea in brilliant reds, pinks and white in every shade you can think of. Today, I keep looking out my kitchen window at the red one that is so brilliant in the sun.

Your photos are beautiful. I a currently trying to identify the very same cluster white azalea that is shown above. Can you tell me the name of this variety so that I can add to the two (need three) that I already have? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Terri

Hi Terri, Sorry, but I don't know. All my beautiful azaleas were here when we bought the house. The ad for the house said Parklike Setting and it truly is.

These azaleas are gorgeous. I so miss having them in my garden but the climate and soil conditions just aren't conducive to growing them well where I live now. Lovely article.

I love looking at your beautiful pictures of flowers.

I don't think that azaleas would do very well around here.

Our area is known for the azaleas. We have a week called the Azalea festival in April :O)

Cool hub. Please invite me this year to the azalea festival. I'd love to go. My parents had huge azalea bushes in their yard in Rocky Mount. They are beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful! I just planted rhodendrums and am learning about these bushes.

Even your front yard is stunning - wow!

The azalea festival sounds like fun!

Great Hub! Fantastic photos! Thank you very much!

Thank you so much GmaGoldie! We are truly amazed each year with their beauty. I love rhodendrums...the neighbor across the street has a red one that blooms only once in awhile, but I got great shot one year!
