My Husband Built Our Boat
53Our Boat In The Works
Designing and Building Our Boat
In 2003 hubby and I went to the Outer Banks in North Carolina. While vacationing we met a fisherman that was building a fishing boat. My husband asked him many questions about the design that he was using. It was going to be a big boat.
He has told me almost since we met that he has always wanted to build his own boat. As soon as we got back from vacation he began purchasing the materials to build the boat. He designed it in his head. Believe me there were many sleepless night when his mind wouldn't stop working on the design.
The boat was started in August of 2003 and we were in the water about May of 2004. We had to have an inspection to give us a certificate stating it was examanined and it was sea worthy, before the state would let us register it.
Our boat will stay a float even when others sink! It is made of wood but coated with fiberglass cloth with resin.
- My Wonderful Handmade Laptop Stand
I have had my laptop(Toshiba) for almost six years and love it. The only disadvantage I had was it would get too warm on my lap. In 2006, I asked my hubby if I drew up a simple design, would he please try to...

GG, my dad built a sailboat when I was young. We had a rule- we couldn't sail in it unless we contributed 5 hours minimum to its completion. I did lots of sanding! My dad put a fiberglass coating on the side as well and I remember the fabric part being a bit tricky. He painted the bottom of the C boat turquoise and the top part was a beautiful polished wood. We spent many a Labor Day sailing this boat on the many lakes of Minnesota. What fond memories I have of these years. I hope you have as great a time!
How fantastic!!! What a great boat and the wonderful thing is he made it with his own hands that is priceless. :)
To build your own boat sounds like the best project in the world!!! I have a young friend who has suggested that we should build a kayak together. But, he got a job.
You have a very gifted hubby. Nice hub.
