Burising Easily Is No Fun

Being Careful Not To Bump Into Things #20
Since my major illness in 2008, my skin is very sensitive. I have alway been a bruiser since I can remember. My mother is and probably many of my siblins.
Of late it has been real bad. At first, I had to be very careful because I was on comadine, which thankfully I haven't had to take since March of 2009. But within the past month, I have been bruising extremely quickly(like immediatly). Yesterday took the cake.
I had started cutting out quilting squares for my newest granddaughters lap quilt. My daughter gave me the fabric last October 2008 but I have not been physically up to par to work with it. Yesterday, I began cutting the squares. When, I went to set one color fabric aside, somehow I managed to knock the cutting square off the table. It landed pointed edge down onto the side of my foot.
Immediately, I felt the skin rising. So fast was the blood pooling and swelling that the skin was laying over like someone with excess skin. Quickly, I headed for the freezer to put ice on it. This really scared me. I call my doctors office to talk with the nurse. She said she would talk with my doctor to see if I should be seen. We can't afford that with all the medical bills we are paying from last years experience(12 of them!). The largest being on her billing system.
My doctor called me back within a few minutes. I was a bit apprehensive when she identified herself(a bit sarcastic). She thought it was funny(great sense of humor). It just surprised me that she had called me herself. Maybe she realized I really couldn't afford to come in if it really wasn't necessary. Usually, she says she needs to see me.
Looking though my records, she reminds me that I have something called Lupus Coagulant(spelling?). It has something to do with my blood. I have a blood doctor for it. She told me that having that will cause me to bruise easily. Go figure...
My bruising is from doing something like bumping into things, dropping something on myself. To worry if it is just bleeding from nose of gums. Great! Be more careful...as if I don't already. But it relieved me to hear her say that. So, when hubby came home he might feel a little better when I told him.
Because the same thing had been happening when I hit my hands lately and Tuesday my leg brushed against the door pocket of the truck and I have a huge bump and bruise from that. Among others... so more careful I must be.

I not only think it is medication that causes bruising. I am not on any and it feels at times I can look at a corner or a door and I bruise. I think it has to do with your jeans. When I was younger I would never get a bruise and now a complete trun around.
That would be scary, glad you called the Dr. to check it out. I can understand why dropping the square on your foot would do that but some of the other stuff seems pretty minor. Obviously with all that is going on it's wise to keep all of your Dr.'s infomred.

There is no doubt in my mind that the cause of the easy bruising stems from your medication. I think it is irresponsible of the doctors not to have informed you. When next you see the blood doctor, maybe ask if there is alternative medication.
I also take medications that cause easier bruising that last longer, but also a longer blood flow when skin is actually broken.
I am sorry to hear about your health issues.
