The Cats In Our Lives Two Very Different Ferals
55Our Amusing Cats
When we moved here we didn't know what a feral cat was. We refer to them as strays in the northern state of Maine where we originally come from. After moving here while sitting on the front door steps, I kept seeing a couple of older kittens go through the yard.
One was a calico the other black. Loving animals the way I do, I started calling them to me to pet them. The calico became very friendly and decided that it wanted into the house. That, I put off for quite some time until hubby asked why I didn't (he isn't really a animal lover) fun to see but not own. The black one took more cohersion but finally came to get petted. That is all it wanted, DO NOT TRY TO PICK UP! You could pat this cat to death I believe, but not pick up.
Well I named the calico Shadow as it followed my husband around everywhere he went. When she showed up, I would ask her where Black Beauty was because that is what I thought she was a beauty. So from here on that is how I will refer to them. They became regulars to be fed and have water outside.
After a bit they started coming in for their food, but Black Beauty would go wild scratching like a raving maniac on the door or window to go out almost immediately when done eating, then Shadow would follow suit. Over time she has calmed down a bit, but still won't let you pick her up. She either lets you know put down immediatly or hisses at you. Shadow will let me pick her up and pat for a bit then wants down.
We were told that the County helped people to have cats spayed, so I called and confirmed. They paid half the cost. They were done as soon as possible because we didn't know if they were male or female. They were female and we didn't want them having any more(couldn't afford it either). Thank goodness we did. They have been with us over 3 years now and still act the same. Most of the time they don't get along.

Your cat stories are great. We have a cat that adopted us when we first moved into our home. I had to write about her when I first joined hubpages.

Gorgeous photos. A friend of mine has ferals. I'm needing to get an update on the goings on. They sort of chose her. She didn't want to get attached... but she is.
