Burning Wood

 Installing a wood burning fireplace insert has saved considerable money with this past seasons cold weather. When others were receiving high electric bills and having gas delivered every few days, we were saving by burning wood to heat the home.

Given a wood stove insert

Just a couple of weeks before Christmas we were blessed with the gift of a woodstove fireplace insert. It had been the coldest season on record. We were trying to save money by setting our heat low and running a space heater in the room we currently were in at the time. Someone offered us the stove and delivered it to us. It was the greatest gift we received. We have been blessed with all the wood given to us since receiving the stove as well.

Woodstove Surround

 The opening around the stove that was exposed was sealed with steel plates at both sides and top of the wood stove. It was painted with special black stove paint. This summer we will paint the stove.

Thanks Tom...they say the weather has not ever been this cold here in recorded history. We surely enjoyed our wood heat.

It is always good to have a wood burning fireplace. If the power goes out you can always stay warm and heat food.

I know just what you mean. I have a fireplace, but never really use it because it seems to make everything so dusty. This winter, I got some wood and lots of Pledge. :)

This is a timely hub and right on target. Have you seen the stoves built by the Amish? They are fabulous!

By the way, the only thing driving the oil prices up are the greedy speculators…

Thanks Susannah42, Fay and Nancy for the commenting. Sorry I was delayed with commenting. We were on our yearly vacation at Massanutten timeshare in Virginia. Paid for so must use and not waste our hard earned money ;o) Hope to sell or return it to get rid of yearly fees. Will be a long or impossible trip when we return to Maine in a few years! It is beautiful and peaceful there though.

These wood buring fireplace inserts sound like a great option for holding down costs and keeping warm.

Nothing like old fashioned heating; up dated a little.

Thanks for sharing this gem and I now look forward to following you on here.

Take care;

Eddy.
